Viking has taken delivery of its newest river ship, Viking Tonle, set to sail exclusively on Southeast Asia's Mekong River. According to Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, the region's rich history and traditions make it especially compelling for travellers who value learning through exploration.
The Viking Tonle, designed specifically for the 15-day Magnificent Mekong itinerary, joins its sister ship, Viking Saigon. Both vessels accommodate 80 guests in 40 outside staterooms, showcasing Viking's Scandinavian design with light-filled public areas and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors leading to verandas or French balconies.
Onboard amenities include:
- Pool and Fitness Centre: a three-deck ship featuring a pool, spa, and fitness centre
- Sky Bar: an open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck offering breathtaking views
Viking Tonle's maiden voyage is scheduled to start on September 29, 2025. The ship's addition doubles Viking's capacity on the Mekong River, allowing more travellers to experience the region's cultural treasures.
As part of its long-term growth strategy, Viking expects to take delivery of 25 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 ocean ships by 2031. This expansion will bring the company's fleet to 112 river ships and 23 ocean and expedition ships.
