Is there room for one more expedition cruise company? Australian tourism entrepreneur and Mawson’s Huts Foundation board member, Greg Carter, obviously thinks so.The founder and CEO of the newly launched Terra Nova Expeditions, who was also CCO of Albatros Expeditions, has revealed he has taken the iconic former UK Royal Mail ship St Helena, on a long-term charter with plans to convert the 1989-built vessel into an ice-class 1C polar expedition cruise ship and will begin voyages to Antarctica from the 2026/27 season. The vessel will be reconfigured to carry 98 passengers, down from the current 150.
Joining the Terra Nova team will be chief commercial officer Beth Mercier, who previously worked at Quark Expeditions and Hurtigruten, along with chief financial officer Nick Macciocca, who co-founded Agora Brazil Travel. Andrea Bagi joins as general manager for brand and client experience, also from Albatros Expeditions.
