Statement regarding HX vessel Fridtof Nansen - now returned to service

UPDATE: MS Fridtof Nansen returned to service. Remainder of season unaffected.

On November 16th, a contained technical issue occurred on our vessel, MS Fridtjof Nansen. The ship is continuing its planned journey to the disembarkation port, Ushuaia, and will arrive on November 18th. We can confirm that all passengers and crew are safe and accounted for.

It’s a mail and milk run in effect, disgorging goods and sometimes passengers at these isolated communities among the fjords. However, mostly the people are along for the ride on this spectacular coastline, the longest in Europe.

As part of a phased approach, starting with Antarctica and Galápagos expeditions in October 2024, they will be introducing an 'all-inclusive' offering as standard across the whole fleet from November 2024, covering all destinations.

Anyone who has done some travel throughout the African continent knows well how difficult visiting multiple countries can be. Unlike the Americas or Europe, intercontinental travel in Africa is typically not only much more costly but also ill-fated by inconvenient and lengthy flight options. Hurtigruten Norway unveils its first zero-emission cruise ship – the world’s most energy-efficient cruise vessel. Set to launch in 2030, the ship will use 60 MWh batteries, retractable sails with solar panels, and AI manoeuvring to eliminate emissions.
