Solomon Airlines Pacific network expansion to improve access to On Water Expeditions itineraries

Travel to a range of remote Pacific expedition cruise destinations will become more accessible following an expansion of Solomon Airlines’ regional flight network from March 2026.

New and reinstated air routes linking Australia, New Zealand, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands are expected to simplify connections to several locations used by On Water Expeditions, a marine-focused travel brand launched last year within the World Expeditions Travel Group portfolio.

The airline’s expanded schedule includes:

  • A new twice-weekly Christchurch–Port Vila service from 1 July

  • Reinstated Auckland–Port Vila–Honiara flights from 30 March

  • A new weekly Honiara–Port Moresby route connecting with Asia-based carriers

  • Increased frequencies between Brisbane and Santo, and Auckland and Port Vila

According to On Water Expeditions, the additional air services will reduce travel time and improve logistical access to several remote island regions where its voyages operate.

“These air links remove some of the traditional challenges associated with reaching destinations such as Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea,” said Rachel Imber, Brand Manager for On Water Expeditions. “For travellers, this means reduced transit time and more time at their destination.”

Among the itineraries expected to benefit is the 12-day Kayak, Dive & Snorkel the Solomon Islands expedition, departing 7 May 2026.

The voyage explores multiple locations across the Solomon Islands archipelago, including marine environments known for high biodiversity and sites containing World War II shipwrecks. Travel is conducted aboard the Solomons Master, with activities including snorkelling, diving and coastal kayaking between Honiara and Munda.

The operator is currently offering a 20% discount on remaining cabins for the May departure, reducing the twin-share fare from AUD $13,300 to AUD $10,640 per person, excluding flights.

In many parts of the Solomon Islands, traditional dugout canoes remain in regular use, reflecting the continued importance of marine transport within local communities.

All On Water Expeditions trips are led by expert local teams and designed with responsible travel practices at the core – including low-impact marine logistics, cultural protocols, and regenerative partnerships with community hosts.
