Introducing On Board Tasmanian Expedition Cruises - WIN A CRUISE

#expeditioncruising .

On Board brings the comforts of a boutique lodge to some of Tasmania’s most remote and arresting waterways. Tasmanian-owned and family-operated, the expedition company specialises in intimate, place-based journeys aboard Odalisque III, a purpose-built expedition catamaran launched in Tasmania in 2023 for a maximum of 12 guests in seven cabins.

Its signature territory is the far southwest: Port Davey, Bathurst Harbour and Melaleuca, deep within the UNESCO-listed Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Here, tannin-dark waters, quartzite ranges and weather-carved coastlines form the backdrop for daily guided walks, tender excursions and quietly immersive exploration led by expert local guides. On Board also ventures to Tasmania’s East Coast, including Freycinet, Maria Island and the Tasman Peninsula, connecting guests with the landscapes, stories and flavours of the island state.

The experience is pitched at travellers who want genuine wilderness without roughing it. Odalisque III operates as a floating lodge, combining access to hard-to-reach places with the soft luxuries of a small, hosted vessel. The company’s all-Tasmanian crew provides an intimate style of hospitality, while itineraries are shaped around weather, wildlife, walking, boating and the rhythms of place.

Founder and head skipper Pieter van der Woude brings more than 50 years’ experience on and under Tasmanian waters, including work as a Tasmania Police search and rescue diver and commercial abalone diver. Together with his daughter Alice and the On Board team, he hosts guests through a region the company has spent a decade sharing.

As a member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, On Board sits firmly in the contemporary luxury expedition space, where sustainability, authenticity and privileged access matter as much as comfort. Its offering is less cruise than carefully guided immersion: Tasmania by water, wilderness and local knowledge.
