Russian small ship and river cruise company, Vodohod, is poised to enter the expedition fray with two new ships, codenamed Project Vega, under construction at the Helsinki Shipyard Inc. The company already owns and operates 25 river cruise boats, nine speed boats and five other boats on Russian waterways.
The deal for construction was signed last June and the ships will be delivered in August 2021 and January 2022.
The 113m, 148-passenger ships will operate in the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as tropical waters during the spring and autumn seasons and will be rated PC5 ice class.
