Expedition cruise operator True North Adventure Cruises has completed a $4 million refit of its vessels True North and True North II ahead of the 2026 season.

The upgrades focus on performance, passenger comfort and expanded expedition capability, as the company approaches its 40th year of operations.

On True North, works include the installation of new engines and cabin modifications, with selected rooms now fitted with additional Pullman bunks to increase occupancy flexibility while maintaining the vessel’s small-ship format.

Refurbishment of True North II has centred on guest areas and operational capability, including the addition of new adventure boats designed to access shallow rivers, reefs and remote coastal environments.

The company said both vessels also completed crew training programmes prior to the season to maintain service and operational standards.

The 2026 programme includes new itineraries across Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, with a focus on remote access and expedition-style travel.

Among the new routes, Kimberley Untold explores less-visited sections of Western Australia’s Kimberley coast, including remote rivers, waterfalls and sandstone gorges, alongside fishing and guided shore excursions.

A second itinerary, Navigate New Britain, operates in Papua New Guinea, combining coastal exploration, snorkelling and visits to remote island communities.

The company will also return to the Great Barrier Reef, continuing its small-ship approach to reef access and nature-based exploration.

Director Chad Avenell said the investment was aimed at improving operational flexibility and ensuring vessels and crew are prepared for the season.

True North operates small expedition vessels focused on low-density travel and access to remote destinations across the region.
